Port of Dover at standstill

by MATTHEW DOOLEY

Insulate Britain has blocked the port of Dover causing traffic jams on the A20 westbound this morning. The climate activist group confirmed that more than 40 of its members had blocked the road.

The Port of Dover has asked passengers to prepare accordingly for longer wait times.

The news comes after the group disrupted traffic on the M25 five times in the last two weeks.

Local MP for Dover and Deal, Natalie Elphicke, called the protestors “Hooligans” on twitter.

She tweeted: “There must be no repeat of the appalling and unacceptable scenes we saw on the M25. The law must be enforced without delay.”

Insulate Britain is campaigning for the government to provide insulation for homes which they claim would be one of the most efficient ways to help tackle the climate crisis.

This week the government has won a High Court injunction which bans the protests from the motorway and threatens those who breach the injunction with jail time.
