“They’re Creepy and They’re Kooky”: The Addams Family continues its UK tour
Everyone’s favourite spooky family are back touring the UK, showing audiences across the country that being crazy and weird is the new normal.
This musical comedy, with music and lyrics from Andrew Lippa (Jersey Boys), brings back many cast members from the beloved 2017 UK tour, including Cameron Blakely as Gomez, Scott Paige as Uncle Fester, Dickon Gough as Lurch, etc. The Addams Family brings together all that you love from the kooky family and adds a stunning soundtrack, culminating in a fabulous night out for all the family.
The musical tells the story of Wednesday Addams, who once was the princess of darkness, all grown up and in love with a sweet ‘normal’ man. A dinner is to be held between the two families and chaos ensues.
Cameron Blakely steals the show as our sword-wielding devoted husband Gomez. He nails the characterisation throughout the show and masters the balance between comedic and heartfelt moments, clearly showing why he returned to the show. His performance of “Not Today” was a personal stand out for me as well as his heartfelt song to daughter, Wednesday Addams, “Happy/Sad” which truly encapsulated a father’s struggle with his daughter growing up.
We can’t have a Gomez without a Morticia, played by Strictly Come Dance Winner Joanne Clifton, who completely transformed into the sultry and powerful wife and mother, from her voice all the way to her walk, she nailed the character, as well as adding comedic moments to balance out her husband.
Kingsley Morton stars as our grown-up Wednesday Addams who's been hit by love. Morton absolutely shines as Wednesday, especially in her big solo “Pulled” which received thunderous applause. Scott Paige as Uncle Fester guides us through the show, acting as our narrator and truly becomes the audience’s favourite very quickly. Paige transforms into his role and its lovely to see him go from being his understudy in 2017 to nailing the part every performance.
The whole cast captures the atmosphere of the Addams, and transports us to their kooky, crazy world. The sets, costumes and props are completely reminiscent of the movies and TV show and combined with the choreography transforms the stage.
This show is certainly a fun night out for all the family, and a must-see for lovers of the Addams Family; you will not be disappointed!
