Who is Enola Holmes?
Girls, admit, who in childhood dreamed of becoming a detective like the famous hero Sherlock Holmes? So, this role has already been taken, but the good news is that Sherlock has a sister and she is every bit as clever as the great man himself.
“Enola Holmes” (2020) is filmed by Legendary Pictures for Netflix, and the film is produced by the leading actress, 16-year-old Millie Bobby Brown, the star of the TV series Stranger Things. The film brings together many famous actors such as Henry Cavill (Sherlock Holmes), Helena Bonham Carter (Enola`s mother), and Sam Claflin (Mycroft Holmes).
The fabulous, non-intrusive atmosphere of the film with beautiful decorations and costumes transports the viewer into the 19th century. This is a story about Enola who spent her whole life alone with her mother. On the day of her 16th birthday, Enola discovers that her mother has disappeared somewhere. This circumstance forces her brothers - Sherlock and Mycroft to visit the family nest. And then their adventures are gaining a new plot twist.
The film is based on the book “The Case of the Missing Marquess" written by Nancy Springer and it does not in any way echo the previous films about Sherlock, but on the contrary, reminds modern stories about wayward and independent women. The theme of feminism is touched here, and Enola is portrayed as a brave, unwavering girl trying to prove her right to be who she wants to be in society, while other women are limited in everything. A young detective in a skirt who solved the crime faster than his famous brother, the role of Sherlock is secondary in the film, and he is portrayed here as too soft and sometimes boring.
The "Enola Holmes" uses such a technique as the absence of a "fourth wall", that is, the main character interrupts dialogues with other characters and addresses the audience. This technique is not new, but it gives the plot lightness and fabulousness.
Sherlock is the surname that recently began to belong to two detectives. A young lady who solved crimes alone without the help of her older brother, is it a coincidence, or is it all the same inherited mind and logic? A two-hour movie will answer that.
