Fire rages at storage unit on Pield Heath Road Uxbridge

Updated: Mar 15

by Melina Rauter

Ten fire engines and 70 firefighters were called to a major fire that broke out on Thursday evening (March 10) at a storage unit on Pield Heath Road in Uxbridge, near Hillingdon Hospital.

A single storey storage unit and two shipping containers were aflame and part of another single storage unit was damaged and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Station Commander Clive Robinson stated: "There were a number of cylinders involved in the fire, so firefighters cooled and removed them as cylinders can explode when exposed to heat." He added that "Crews worked hard to bring the fire under control and stop it spreading to other units.".

He suggested that residents living nearby should keep their doors and windows closed as there was still a lot of smoke.

The Fire Brigade was called at 19:13pm (March 10) and a further 18 calls about the blaze were received by the Brigade's 999 control officers.

The fire crews came in from Hillingdon, Hayes, Heathrow, Southhall, Ruislip, Harrow and other surrounding fire stations across the borough.

Most of Pield Heath Road was closed off and the firefighters had to pump water from the river to help put out the fire. The fire was under control by 23:52pm (March 10).
