UNSUNG heroes of Hillingdon have been honoured for the extraordinary, often unnoticed work they carry out in the local neighbourhood.
On Tuesday, June 21, Hillingdon Council hosted a special awards ceremony to recognize 25 of the borough's unsung heroes.
The Council invited locals to submit nominations for a Hillingdon Community Award at the end of 2021, for those they knew who were going above and beyond to improve the lives of others.
The council received a flood of nominations from all throughout the borough and 25 nominations out of the 150 received, were selected as winners in various categories.
The winners were invited to the awards ceremony, which was held in the Council Chamber of the Civic Centre in Uxbridge. There, they received certificates and unique lapel pins from the Mayor and Leader of Hillingdon Council, Cllrs. Becky Haggar and Ian Edwards.
The Mayor of Hillingdon, Cllr Becky Haggar said: “It was such a privilege to meet the winners and hear a little more about what they have achieved.
“All the nominees have proven that they have real heart and commitment and have served their community without hesitation. Huge congratulations to everyone nominated, and of course all of the deserving winners.”
Eastcote's Brian ‘Bob’ Beeston, 91, received The Civic Medal as the recipient of the evening's highest honour, the Special Recognition award, for dedicating 80 years to supporting his neighbourhood scout group.
The Leader of Hillingdon Council, Cllr Ian Edwards, said: “It’s been an absolute pleasure and a genuinely humbling experience to meet our Community Award winners. These are residents that have gone the extra mile, for their neighbours and community and have created a greater sense of belonging where they live.
“The calibre of all who were nominated was exceptional, not just our fantastic winners, so I share my congratulations and thanks to everyone involved.”
