More details on Cllr Ian Edwards, who announced earlier this morning that he was standing down as Leader of Hillingdon Council, irrespective of the result of the polls today.

A council statement described him as a former police borough commander and council chief officer, who has led the council for five years after being appointed in January 2021.

The statement said that during his time as leader, he has modernised front line services while keeping council tax lower than neighbouring authorities.

His leadership oversaw an opposition to the expansion of London’s Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ), pushing for increased government funding for Hillingdon, the statement added.

Cllr Edwards, who has been a Hillingdon councillor for 12 years, aims to continue serving residents as a ward member for Eastcote - if re-elected, said the council.

A new Hillingdon Council Leader will be appointed on Thursday 14th May at the Annual General Meeting.
